About Me

I’m Matt Fregon, and I’m your local Labor Member for the District of Ashwood.

I was born and raised in Melbourne’s east. I worked in my Dad’s Ferntree Gully pharmacy, where I learnt the value of community and giving back. After graduating from my local public high school, I went on to study a Bachelor of Business at Deakin University. I moved to Mount Waverley with my wife, Rebecca, and our daughter in 2010, and we proudly continue to raise our family in this wonderful community.

Before being elected to the Victorian Parliament in 2018, I ran a small I.T. business on High Street Road, Glen Iris for 20 years, and volunteered my time as President of Pinewood Preschool. I am now working hard to support local schools, cultural groups, and sporting clubs from Parliament House. I am passionate about advocating for our local community groups and their fantastic volunteers.

For my family, education is deeply valued - my mother was a teacher, my wife is a teacher, and her mother was a much-loved teacher at the local Glen Waverley Secondary College.

Under the Andrews/Allan Labor Government, we've delivered local wins including:

  • Free three and four-year-old kinder, including the new Pinewood Early Years Hub.
  • New 24-hour ambulance station in Mount Waverley.
  • $2 million to fund the Mount Waverley Reserve Master Plan and supported our local sporting clubs.
  • Improvements to local transport and started early works on the Suburban Rail Loop Burwood precinct.
  • Free TAFE - helping Victorians get the skills they need for the job they want.
  • Being a nation-leader on climate action and investing in renewable energy.
  • Launched Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme.
  • Delivered over $50 million in local school infrastructure upgrades.
  • Delivering a fenced off-leash dog park in Mount Waverley

It is the greatest privilege of my working life to be able to represent our wonderful community, and I was honoured to be re-elected as your local voice for the new Ashwood District in 2022.

I'm a passionate advocate for mental health awareness, public education, and fostering local connections.
