Mount Waverley Electorate Sporting Clubs

Mr FREGON (Mount Waverley) (19:20:16): (1276) My adjournment matter is for the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, and the action I seek is for the minister to update the house on what the Andrews Labor government is doing to support our local sports clubs and their fantastic members in the Mount Waverley district. I was extremely pleased to pass on the news to my local clubs that the Andrews Labor government has secured funding in this year’s budget for the master plan for the Mount Waverley Reserve. The master plan shows a vision of great things on the horizon for our three clubs who play on this reserve: the Waverley Blues Football Netball Club, the Mount Waverley Cricket Club and the Mount Waverley Tennis Club. I and they look forward to hearing from the minister on an update for the great work that is being done in my district.

Answer: The 2019/20 Victorian Budget includes $175 million for the Local Sports Grants initiative to support new and improved local sports infrastructure. Through this initiative, $150,000 was allocated to Monash City Council to fund a master plan to guide the future upgrade of Mount Waverley Reserve.

The Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions is working with Monash City Council and the reserve stakeholders to progress this project with a view to identifying infrastructure priorities for future consideration.

Providing high quality community sport and recreation infrastructure is a key aim of the Victorian Government and is integral to the health and well-being of all Victorians. Across Victoria, the Government has invested more than $850 million in community sport and active recreation infrastructure since 2014.
