Constituency Question- Mount Waverley Electorate

Mr FREGON (Mount Waverley) (11:41:24): (407) My constituency question is to the Minister for Roads in the other place, and I ask: what are we doing to support cyclists in my electorate travelling from Syndal to Monash University? Work is currently underway on a user-operated pedestrian crossing on Waverley Road, which will provide a safer crossing not only for cyclists but also for pedestrians, including schoolkids and dog walkers. The great initiative will also provide easier crossing for many senior citizens who reside in the local area. The crossing and the planned crossing on Forster Road will also safely connect the Scotchmans Creek Trail to my good friends in their electorates of Clarinda and Oakleigh. I know that providing a safe means of crossing these roads will greatly benefit many.

Minister’s Answer: VicRoads and the Monash City Council are currently delivering safety improvements for cyclists and pedestrians travelling from Syndal Station to Monash University. The construction of traffic lights on Waverley Road is currently underway to provide a safe crossing point for the community.

VicRoads’ contractor will begin safety improvement works on Forster Road at the end of April. The work on Forster Road includes new traffic lights on Forster Road to provide a safer crossing at Scotchmans Creek Trail, a new wide shared use path for cyclist and pedestrians and safe crossing points at the Monash Freeway entry and exit ramps. The Monash City Council has recently completed widening of the shared use path on Gardiner Road from Ferntree Gully Road to Monash University.
